October 18, 2005 - JOHN REED ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF CASBS
BOARD
John Reed, former chairman and CEO of Citicorp and
Citibank,
has been elected chairman of the board at the Center for Advanced Study
in the Behavioral Sciences, an independent research center located in
Stanford, California.
September 6, 2005 - CENTER
WELCOMES NEW CLASS OF FELLOWS
In September, the Center welcomed 37
Fellows to nine months of reading, researching, thinking, discussing,
and writing. Selected from nearly 5,000 candidates, this year’s
class represents 27 universities in the United States as well as
Australia, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Belgium, and Hungary.
The Fellows’ diverse backgrounds include philosophy, sociology,
economics, law, history, psychology, education, communication,
comparative literature, and women’s studies.

CLUB PHOTOGRAPHS CENTER
To celebrate the Center's 50th Anniversary, members of
the
Palo Alto Camera Club have spent the last eight months capturing images
of the Center. An article about the project was included in the
Palo Alto Weekly, page 13.

ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR
The trustees of the Center for Advanced Study in the
Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) have appointed Stanford University
psychology professor and Center trustee Claude M. Steele as the
Center’s seventh director, effective September 1. He will succeed
Douglas J. McAdam, who is returning to Stanford as professor of
sociology.
