A Message from Nannerl O. Keohane

Dear CASBS Fellows,

Do you remember your first day at the Center— the winding drive up the hill, the rustle of the breeze through the trees, the excitement of meeting your new colleagues for the year?

As the year moved on, conversations expanded into dialogues, which became knowledge-broadening discoveries. Relationships developed and deepened, supported by CASBS’ tranquil, nurturing setting, including seminars and regular encounters over lunch on the patio. For many of us Fellows, our time at the Center represented a turning point in our scholarship.

It is no wonder, then, that CASBS means so much to us.

My husband Bob and I recall our years at the Center with fondness and nostalgia. We treasured the uninterrupted working hours in the studies, the staunch support of the library and technology staffs, the chances for long walks and penetrating conversations.

We found our own scholarly work much enhanced by a fuller understanding of the work being done in other social sciences disciplines. We are proud to have named CASBS as a benefciary in our wills, to express our enduring gratitude to the Center for all it meant to us, both personally and professionally, and to help enable CASBS provide similar experiences to future Fellows.

To recognize and thank Fellows and friends who have included CASBS as a beneficiary in their estate or other fnancial plans, CASBS has established the CASBS Live Oak Society. Will you consider joining Bob and me in becoming a charter member of the CASBS Live Oak Society?

A bequest is just one of the ways in which you may include CASBS in your plans. You may name CASBS as a benefciary of a portion of your qualifed retirement plan (403(b), 401(k) or IRA), or a life insurance policy. Or you may create a “life income gift”, such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust, through which CASBS will receive any assets remaining from the life income gift after the named income benefciaries pass away. Your creation of any of these gift arrangements on behalf of CASBS will qualify you for membership in the CASBS Live Oak Society. More importantly, you will leave your legacy at CASBS, for the beneft of all future Fellows who will contribute to the creation of knowledge in years to come.

On CASBS’ behalf, Stanford University’s gift planning professionals will be happy to provide you with information about how to include CASBS in your plans. For more information, call CASBS at 650-321-2052. I do hope that you will join us in support of this place that has meant so much to so many scholars over the years.

Warm regards,

Nannerl O. Keohane
